Ukraine (/juːˈkreɪn/ yew-KRAYN; Ukrainian: Україна, transliterated: Ukrayina, [ukrɑˈjinɑ]) is a country in Eastern Europe. Ukraine borders the Russian Federation to the east and northeast, Belarus to the northwest (White Russia), Poland, Slovakia and Hungary to the west, Romania and Moldova to the southwest, and the Black Sea and Sea of Azov to the south and southeast, respectively. Kiev city is the capital of Ukraine.

History of Ukraine as well as history of Russia started in 9th century BC, when this place became the centre of East Slav civilization with strong country Kievan Rus existed until 12th century. When Mongolia Empire of Genghis Khan risen up and integrated into, Kievan Rus is formidably defeated and has been under slavery for centuries. After Mongolia weakened, territory of Ukraine was separated among different external powers in Europe, i.e, Poland, Turkey and Russia. Until 19th century, when Russia integrated and defeated two rest rivals, most of Ukraine’s territory belonged to Russian Empire. In 1922, Ukraine became one of the founding republics of Soviet Union and became republic country under socialist institution of Soviet Union. Ukraine became independent again when the Soviet Union dissolved in 1991. Since then, Ukraine started a period of transition to a market economy. However, economy of Ukraine still encounters a lot of great challenges and it is still a country having lowest income in Europe.

Ukraine is a unitary state composed of 24 oblasts (provinces), one autonomous republic (Crimea), and two cities with special status: Kiev, its capital and largest city, and Sevastopol. This is a republic under a semi-presidential system.

Ukraine language (украї́нська мо́ва ukrayins’ka mova; [ukrɑ’jinʲsʲkɑ ˈmɔʋɑ]) is a member of the East Slavic subgroup of the Slavic languages. It is the official state language of Ukraine. This language uses a variant of the Cyrillic script to write and has common vocabularies with neighboring countries, such as Polish, Slovak, Serbian and Russian.

Ukraine language originated in Old Slav of Kievan Rus country. In the first period, it was called Ruthenia. “The Ukrainian language traces its origins to the Old East Slavic of the early medieval state of Kievan Rus'” (century 10–13).

This language still enduringly existed in spite of forbiddance. However, it has always maintained a sufficient base in Western Ukraine where the language was never banned [5] in its folklore songs, itinerant musicians, and prominent authors.
